BIO

Born in the Motor City, she has been a part of the Detroit music scene since she was a child. Growing up in the home of a pastor, she is the youngest in a family full of musicians and singers. Though her initial exposure to music was in the church, it was only the beginning of her musical explorations. She remembers attending orchestral concerts, dance recitals, and theatrical productions as early as age 5. These pivotal moments awakened her artistic desires and helped shape her destiny.

By the time she graduated from high school, she had a solid musical education and an array of experience. She taught and conducted different choral ensembles, learned various musical instruments, developed a summer performing arts program for children, led praise and worship, and was a featured soloist at national conventions. She continued her education at Wayne State University, receiving a bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance.

Her musical expertise has afforded her divers opportunities including lead vocalist, background vocalist, session singer, songwriter, vocal instructor/coach, and music director. As an actor, she has performed in many community and regional theater productions. Some of her most memorable roles include Mrs. Potts (Beauty and the Beast), Deloris Van Cartier (Sister Act), and Billie Holiday (Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill).

Her vocal abilities have been displayed on numerous recordings including Transparent (The Joe Smith Project), A Promise (Peggy James), Encourage Yourself and New Psalms (Ernest J. Lee and the Spirit of David), All I Can Give and Adore (Wilburt Jones), Only What You Do (Shelby Brown), Adoration (Shawn Snoddy) and Prosperity in Praise (Great Faith Ministries International). She has also sung background with a variety of performers including gospel artists Fred Hammond, Lowell Pye, Dorinda Clark-Cole, Vickie Winans, and country artist, Lyle Lovett. She has also coached various recording artists in the gospel and R&B industries along with working with such talented producers as Grammy Award Winner Michael Powell.

With the soulfulness of R&B, the improvisation of jazz, and the exuberance of Motown, Anita continues to thrill audiences on land and at sea. Her ability to seamlessly execute a variety of musical genres is impressive and her performance will impact and inspire all who hear it.
